Andinet International College (AIC) hosted its First Quarterly Seminar on September 25, 2025, at its campus, focusing on “Enhancing Research Funding and Scholarly Publications at AIC: Sharing Skills and Experiences in Grant Writing and Academic Publishing.” The session was presented by Dr. Osman Ahmed, an Associate Professor from Tongji University, China, who won China’s prestigious Young Scientist Award, with over 60 publications and more than 2,600 citations. The seminar was moderated by Dr. Tadese Demeke, Head of the Accounting and Finance Department in AIC, who facilitated an engaging and productive discussion.

Dr. Osman shared valuable experiences on how to secure research funding and publish scholarly work. He emphasized that the quality of grant proposals is critical for success. He presented the detailed requirements of granting winning proposal. Matching research proposals with funder priorities, understanding evaluation criteria, and recognizing patterns in awarded grants are essential steps before submission. In terms of academic publishing, Dr. Osman underscored the importance of selecting appropriate journals, ensuring originality, adhering to ethical standards, and aligning research with the target journal’s scope to increase acceptance chances.

His practical experience will help young researchers at AIC to craft quality proposals to secure research grants and publish impactful research, thereby strengthening the college’s research capacity. Participants appreciated the relevance of the topic and the researcher’s achievements, actively engaging in discussions and raising questions about securing research funds as beginners, challenges faced by private colleges in Ethiopia related to securing research funds as compared to public higher education institutions, identifying reputable open-access journals, and addressing research funding shortages at AIC.

The seminar concluded with remarks from Dr. Demewoz Admasu, the college president, who praised Dr. Osman’s achievements and expressed a strong interest in future collaborations to promote research activities at AIC. He emphasized the importance of inviting experts like Dr. Osman to share their experiences, highlighting that research grants can significantly impact researchers’ livelihoods.
